Lohri Celebrations @ CIFS!!

Cambridge International Foundation School, Jalandhar

Sunder Munderiye Ho !

In order to pay homage to the SUPREME BEING for neutralizing the illusion by lighting the inner glow and the support extended throughout the year, also to mark the significance of the Festival of Harvest(Lohri) and the Hindu New Year(Makar Sankranti); a Special assembly was conducted today for PYP grades (nursery to 5).  The students offered prayers to the God of Sun and Fire, teachers created awareness among students about the significance of both the festivals by story-telling.
The assembly also featured poem recitation by students in Hindi and Punjabi, specially the folk song Sunder Munderiye… followed by a speech to indicate the reasons behind these celebrations every year.
We also had a cake cutting ceremony by our tiny tots from PYP nursery to mark the beginning of the New Year with all positive thoughts and blessings. The most energetic part of the celebration was the Dance Party, which was enjoyed in full Punjabi style by our lovely students.

We wish you all too a very HAPPY LOHRI and a Happy New Year (Makar Sankranti)!!!

  1. Happy Lohri 2019 - Date (13th January 2019): Lohri is a popular winter Punjabi folk festival, which is celebrated mainly by Sikhs and Hindus from the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent. There are a lot of significance and legends about the Lohri festival and these festivals connect with the Punjab region. Many people believe that the festival celebrates the passing of winter solstice.
